Bibilical Fasting

in Religion by

The other day I got on the scale and say my weight at 224 lbs.  I scream!  I told myself I got to do something about it.  As I sat in the sauna at the gym 4 words came to my mind, Fast, Read, Pray and Exercise.  I saw the plan right before my eyes to get my self back onto a healthy level again.

When I got home I read the account of Jesus fasting, which he did before he launch out to his public ministry.  As I read the account, I could see that there would be challenges along the way.  My body will be screaming for sure, but other things will also come at me, like people tempting me with things that will get in my way, and then the devil himself.  As I read the account I notice that there was so much activity going on in the spiritual realm.  There was the Holy Spirit, Satan and Angels!  So there is more going on then we can see with our naked eye.

I ask myself does God want me to do a 40 day fast or perhaps a 21 day fast like Daniel did in the old testament?  The answer is neither!  God wants me to make fasting a lifestyle!  To fast regularly.  I begin to see God plan unfold as I was doing research online regarding fasting and I kept coming across Intermittent Fasting.   That is a fast where you have set times and days when you fast.  You intentionally choose not to eat at certain times and to consume water only.  Also at the times you do eat you do so healthy.  Plus you must include your exercise program in it.  Time for the reading the word of God and Prayer.

I could see my plan clearly.  I am a AM man.  I get to the gym between 5:30 and 5:45 AM to workout.  I usual do 30 minutes of cardio and then 10 minutes in sauna where I usually mediate or pray.  Then off to work!  I will not eat until lunch time which is at 1 PM and have my dinner before 8 PM.  That is my intermittent fasting.  I will at some point kick in 1 day day a week a 24 hour fast.

What results to I expect to achieve from this?  A healthier lifestyle.  For one by skipping breakfast, which is where I really eat bad, I opt to eat a healthy veggie lunch!  It also gives me the incentive to walk pass the fast food restaurants on my home and stock my kitchen with healthy foods.  I know from the past when I stop eating fast food, my taste buds do not like it when every I try it again after being away from it. So goodbye my fast food friends, I wont’t miss you!

I also expect to be stronger spiritually because of my intentional purpose to read, study and mediate on the word of God.  Whoo hoo I am on a roll!

Question? Is fasting a part of your lifestyle?  Do you think it will benefit you?

Work Out Your Salvation

in Religion by

“Work Out Your Salvation With Fear and Trembling”,  you have probably heard this bible verse countless times but what does it really mean to you?  Perhaps you are like millions who believed that once they accepted Jesus as their savior and lord that was it.  But not so, we got to live this salvation out moment by moment.  As I reflect on it I think of the book “The Road Less Traveled” from many years ago.  Each of us has to walk that out alone with God.  No instant snap by God and we will somehow become perfect, the truth is we will never become perfect in this life. So when you think you just have one big think to conquer there are other ones waiting in the wings.

The next verse that follows Work out your salvation with fear and trembling is: “For It Is God Who Works In You To Will In You To Act On Behalf Of His Good Pleasure”.  It’s really not about us but God and he works at his own discretion, timing and way.  In today’s brand of Christianity we kinda try to buy from God the things we want.  How many times have you been beat over the head regarding tithes?  Or told you you sow a certain amount of money God will give you this or that?  It painted as the path to least resistance or working out your salvation with fear and trembling.

You have to be careful of support groups where you pour out your laundry, are the helping you and actually causing you to stay in mess?  Just went to you know when you have reached the point of getting past your mess?  Who or what determines it?

There is no program, no healing ministry that can work out your salvation with fear and trembling, only God in you, as you listen and obey him.

Glorious Son

in Religion by

Today in the early morning hour as I walked to the subway station to get the train to the gym, I notice how lite up the moon was.  The light from the sun was so strong the moon was so bring and grabbed your attention.  As I keep glancing at it, the following scripture came to my mind:

“And the city has no need for sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp, Jesus Christ.”  (Revelation 21:24).  I though to my self look at the brilliance of the natural sun against the moon, can only image what the glory of the lord will be like?  The bible does say that God dwells in unapproachable light.  These bodies we are in now can not withstand the glory of God, they were just melt away. That is why Jesus said in heaven will be like the angels!  Nothing earthly about us will be there!

As each day comes and go, I know that the time to meet the son of glory is shorter and it increases my expectancy of standing before one day.  Do you have that expectation in you?  Are you preparing room in your soul for such a moment?

John 3:16

in Religion by

I can remember back in the day when every you watch a sporting event on TV you would always see a guy with sign “John 3:16”.  I had no clue what that sign was all about.  But since they allowed it to be shown on TV during the broadcast I assume this must have been a reason.  I had no idea the sign was religious in nature.  I went to Catholic Mass in grade and high school and just went along with what I was told to recite.  But I swear I never recalled quoting John 3:16.

God In Control

in Religion by

You have heard the verse that God will never let us go through more than we can bare.  But most of us look at the and frown.  I think we frown because we look at the stuff that we are made of and not of God power and ability to sustain us no matter what trial, tribulation or testing we experience.  It’s when we don’t see favorable change or outcome we ponder or where oh God are you at?

I can recall a few years ago going through Prostate Cancer Surgery and one night there was a equipment malfunction which through me into the deepest pain I have ever experience.  It was so painful that I forgot that I was in the hospital and actually asked someone to all 911!  At that point I said to myself and God, well you are not taking the pain away but I believe that you are with me.

That was one of those you would not let me to through more than I can bare.  The older I get I see the word perseverance as the key to the Christian walk of faith.  I cry at the fake faith that is preach in many churches today.  People expect positive natural outcomes in everything.  But when it doesn’t they crash and lose heart and faith in God.  You see they were set up to fail by the faith that was of their own making and not that of God.  The faith of God says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  The key word is “ALL”.  That means the good things and the bad.

Failing Faith

We don’t always past all the test!  The bible is full of people who did not past the test, but after their failure God restore them and used them mightily.  No one has figure God out, and when I here someone say it is the will of God to heal all the time, I cringe!

Falling Away

I believe many people fall and are falling away from the faith because serious bad teachings, some of those are word of faith, health, wealth and prosperity and some dogmatic heavy doctrine teaching which are noting but mind of men.  Trials and tribulation are indeed the trying of our faith.  It’s these moments that show us what we are made of or better yet where are faith is rooted in.  God’s thoughts are not are thoughts, nor his ways our ways.  Blessed be the name of the Lord.  His hand is always there to catch us.

God Will Provide

in Post format/Religion by

Sometimes in life there is a call for a change but we don’t always know how it a good change could possibility happen.  We look at our circumstances and make a determination that nothing good could possibility happen.  But then there is God.  The bible states that Our thoughts and God thoughts are not always in agreement.  We make be thinking too low or too high of ourselves.

God Is So Into Me!

in Religion by

I can’t but ponder how God is so into me!  Most people would think the opposite because we see God as this supreme being that we have to somehow please or God would not be so into us. But that is not what the bible says and teaches.  It say that God so love humans that he sent his only begotten son Jesus, that who soever would receive Jesus who put their trust in him, they would be the receiver of eternal life! John 3:16!  So where did all the stuff about working so hard by doing good, that hopefully or just maybe God would become interested in YOU, come from?  I tell you that came from man made religion.  You know you are taught about a set of rules, commandments or rituals to keep that some how that will gets God attention.

But the bible says no man can come to God unless he is draw by God and that is not within no human being period, but it is the free gift of grace, love and mercy that God extends to all human beings through Jesus Christ.

I spend 12 years of grade and high school in religious schools.  As I reflect back, some was good and some was bad.  It gave me a conscious of God, that I believed God existed but I had no glue of his great love for me.

I was baptize, had first holy communion and conformation, but had not idea what that all really meant. It was just something the church taught and I like others went along with it.  I think those things made me more fearful of God in a negative way.  I still did no see God love for me. I even at one point wanted to become a priest but I ponder if that was because it was my attempt to please God so that I would not go to hell?

Born Again

It was sometime in the late 70’s when I was introduced to the Born Again Christian while living in Los Angeles.  In fact it was the first time I heard that God loved me period.  It was the first time I heard and learn about salvation and that I did not have to rely on Mary or any other saints to pray for me, or the Priest to forgive me my sins.  I learned all that was done by and through Jesus alone!  You could say I was a born again christian because before that I was a Catholic Christian.  I have found hope, peace and love from God the Father in Jesus Christ alone.  So I can say without a doubt that God is so into me!  What about you?

The key to running and winning the rest is where we have our eyes set.  I have found when I take the eyes of my heart, mind and soul off of Jesus then I begin to sink.  In fact I blame Jesus for not keeping me together.  But the truth is Jesus did not change at all.

Run The Race

in Religion by

Life is a race, either you are active in the race or you are sitting in the stands.  The bible says to ” set our eyes on

Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

The key to running and winning the rest is where we have our eyes set.  I have found when I take the eyes of my heart, mind and soul off of Jesus then I begin to sink.  In fact I blame Jesus for not keeping me together.  But the truth is Jesus did not change at all.

Endurance is the word I hear a lot in life these days.  You got to have endurance to go the distance.  The definition of endurance is: the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way,   the ability to withstand hardship or adversity; especially : the ability to sustain a prolonged stressful effort or activity.

As Christians we have the source of our endurance within us,  The Lord Jesus Christ himself, for he is our example, our mentor, or leader in whom steps we follow.  So therefore we run in such a way as to obtain the prize that is before us, the salvation of our souls.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
