Cross Training with Step Aerobics
Step Aerobics is a low impact workout
that uses an elevated platform that is
between 4 and 12 inches off the ground.
The amount of calories burned during the
workout varies depending the intensity,
speed and duration of the class. You should
consult your doctor before beginning any
exercise program.
Benefits of Step Aerobics
• Raises the good HDL cholesterol and
lower the bad LDL cholesterol.
• Increases muscle strength in the lower
extremities of the body.
• Increases metabolism.
• Makes the heart stronger and blood to flow
though out the body stronger. Forms of Step

• Advance Step uses more advance or

• Interval Step uses sport moves like at
different intensity levels. No dance

oriented step works. The focus is on dance

Born To Inspire The World To Dance & Fitness
There are some fitness enthusiast who use Step Aerobics as a cross training tool. The step is
use to measure or increase their vascular conditioning by doing the step up test. The step up
test is when a participant step up and step down from the step for a set period of time. This will
reveal how hard their heart is pumping. Some use the step to work quads and glutes by doing
plyometric moves on and off the bench. One of my favorites is doing a burpee and mountain
climb combination using the steps. I do this in the mens step challenge video above. My
students love this. Another use is doing push ups and triceps dips.

Step Choreography
Is just a matter of you coming up with creative moves for your step class. But moves should not
be so complex that it takes up to much time to break it down or just to complex for participates to
get. I have to think outside your box and bring into picture your class.
