The Best Workouts for Seniors

The Best Workouts for seniors?  Hmm, that is good question.  Just like no two snowflakes are alike, nor are two seniors alike.  As a senior myself I know my fitness level is higher than most my peers my age, so I go for workouts that meet my physical demands.

There are a lot of great exercise fitness programs out there in the world geared toward seniors, but you must try out one until you find the one that works for you.  There’s Silver Sneakers, Active Seniors, YMCA and lots more.

Perhaps you are like me, I like to do my own thing.  I don’t like to follow someone program.  But then again, I have been certified as a Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer since 1989 so I take matters into my own hands.  But if you don’t have the background like I do here are a few suggestions:

Make sure each day you include some time of physical activity that you enjoy.  The key word is “enjoy”.  If you enjoy what you’re doing you will find it much easier to do it again.  If you just like be outdoors and walk, jog or run then do that.   If you like to put on music and dance around your place then do that.  Finding exercise routine that will work for you does not have to be a chore.  You will know it when you’re doing it.

What about the latest hot workout on the market right now, is if for you?  Remember those programs are designed to pull in a certain segment of the population and make appeal to unconscious negatives you may have about your appearance.  If you notice any ads or commercial regarding 6 pack abs, they do not feature seniors.  Seniors have come to the conclusion that they don’t need 6 pack abs to be healthy or to be loved.  I have notice how they are using fitness models with a touch of grey to try to pull you in.  Don’t be sucker by the marketing.

You have to decide why you want to exercise.  What is your goal for you?  Determine what exercise is fit for you.  Don’t fall into the trap, “everybody else is doing” so it must be right.  Use your own mind to determine what is best for you.
